In July 2016, the Secaucus Board of Education contacted the Secaucus Police Department and stated there was suspicious activity involving the Secaucus Patriots Booster Club bank account. During an investigation, it was discovered that the Booster Club President, Elena I. Ratti, 38, formerly of Secaucus, was the sole controller of the account.
Based on the investigation and audits conducted of the bank account, it became known that Elena I. Ratti had stolen in excess of $25,000 worth of Booster Club funds between July of 2015 and August 2016. It is alleged that Elena I. Ratti utilized the money to pay her personal bills (e.g. utilities, gasoline, food, etc). Therefore, ElenaI I. Ratti was charged with 3rd Degree Theft of Moveable Property [2C:20-3a] and arrested on March 8, 2017.
Chief Flaherty commends the exhaustive and diligent work of Detective Sergeant Austin Hawxhurst. He also stated “these types of investigations take time and patience, but the community needs to remain confident that the Secaucus Police Department will fully investigate all complaints.”
These charges are merely accusations and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
