Chief Kevin Flaherty was raised in the Town of Secaucus attending local schools and graduated Secaucus High School in 1983. He attended Farleigh Dickinson University, Teaneck, New Jersey and graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering in 1987. After working in the private sector for several years was appointed a patrolman in the Secaucus Police in January 1989 and graduated from the Bergen County Police Academy.
Chief Flaherty was promoted to Sergeant in Patrol Division in January 1997 and then to Lieutenant in July 2008 assigned as a shift commander. In February 2014 promoted to Captain and eventually placed in command of the Patrol Division. In December 2014 was named Officer in Charge of the Secaucus Police Department. In April 2015 was promoted to Chief.
Chief Flaherty has received over 11 awards for exemplary police performance including 3 awards for life saving CPR performed.
Chief Flaherty has a strong working relationship with the Mayor and Town Council along with the community and is committed to modernizing the Police Department while building upon its strong community policing practices.
